The furniture and interior design store Green Living combines great design with healthy, natural and ecological materials.
In 2010, Christian Voss opened the large store on the premises of a former brewery in the heart of Berlin’s Prenzlauer Berg district. “We want to show our customers that a green approach does not mean less innovative design or a lesser quality. It is possible to surround yourself with beautiful objects, without harming the environment”, says Voss.
He carefully chooses the designers and the companies that supply him with textiles, furniture and carpets. The use of eco-friendly and non-toxic materials, a sustainable production and social responsibility are of paramount importance to Voss. His guiding philosophy is to consider the whole life cycle of a product. This means incorporating recycled materials in production or knowing how to recycle a product once it is out of use.
The Finnish company Woodnotes, for example, uses paper yarn for their carpets and Italian designer Riva1920 uses wood exclusively from trees that naturally fell over. For a holistic design approach Green Living has a team of interior designers, carpenters, painters and lighting designers on hand to advise customers and help plan their living space.
