Each customer is offered a glass of the store’s own sparkling rosé upon entering Vintagerie. The story behind this tradition is as follows: Owners Peter Lindenberg and Alexander Bechstein used to meet every Friday over a glass of rosé. It was during these meetings that they dreamed up the idea of their own store.
This store, instead of someone else’s establishment, would become their regular meeting place. Vintagerie was initially located in a hidden courtyard building but in April 2012, after having established a foundation of customers, Lindenberg and Bechstein moved to their present location: a two level shop smack between Mariahilferstrasse and Haus des Meeres.
Vintagerie specializes in “modern antique” furniture, lamps and objects hailing from the 1930s to the 1980s and offers affordable alternatives to classic designer pieces. All of the store’s items are carefully curated by the owners who travel throughout Europe always looking to expand their collection.
The store has gained a reputation for chandeliers and classic Austrian designs, such as the “Ottakringer” (a chair that doubles as a step ladder, named after Vienna’s 16th district). Come in and pick out a modernist addition to your home while sipping of a cool glass of bubbly.
